Often by the time I turn off the light and settle into sleep, it has already been quite a while since Dave dozed off. I have always been a night owl, although I am asleep by midnight fairly consistently these days. Not exactly early, I know, but a huge change from when I used to greet the sun before giving in to sleep.
Wednesday, Dave was out before I even had a chance to get into bed. As I slipped my feet under the covers he replied with, “nope”. I naturally asked what that was about. more…
At the New Years Eve party I told Elizabeth that I would post this video because it’s hilarious. It also happens to be a fun way to learn about the cultural significance behind certain adornments of Indian women.
The commercial came up because we were discussing whether I still wore sindoor (red powder) on the part in my hair as a symbol of my marriage. I did stop wearing it a while ago as I always knew I eventually would. I have a hard time keeping up with daily habits and too many people asked me if I had hurt myself. Basically, It just got to be too much of a hassle.
Despite this, I’m sure I will pick up the habit again the next time we are in India. At least then I won’t have to deal with the questions and I’ll definitely get daily reminders from family. Plus, I’m already used to being stared at constantly when I’m there so it’s not like it will make people stare at me any more than they already do.
Enjoy the video and feel free to take this opportunity to ask me about marrying into an Indian family, our trip to India, or any other related topics. As I always say, people love to talk about themselves. ;o)
Clearly I have been off the blogging track for the past week or so. The only explanation is that I’ve been busy with other things. Isn’t that weak? Well, to give myself a bit of a motivational boost I’m lowering my goal from posting every weekday to three times per week. That seems reasonable doesn’t it?
The photo posts are pretty quick to present, once the shot has been taken, edited, and uploaded, but it has also been requested that I write more like I used to or at least diversify my posts. I can’t argue with that and in fact, had been thinking the same thing myself.
For now, enjoy these photos of my grandma with a handful of one dollar bills. That ought to tide you over until I get some writing time. Just ask yourself, what was grandma doing with all those singles?
Today’s photo post is a double whammy since both were taken on the same day, my birthday! Dante peered at the poster for the ambient music event at the Madrone Lounge in San Francisco, looked up at me, pursed his kitty lips, and narrowed his eyes in an expression that could only be taken one way.
“Ambient music? C’mon.”
Well, Dante, you’re one to talk about taste. You eat Buster’s puke.
I was doing a bit of reading on Wikipedia tonight and came upon a reference to The Hedgehog Signaling Pathway. I had no idea what it was referring to, but knew it had something to do with genetics and thought it was a silly name so I decided to read more.
I didn’t have to read long before I noticed this sentence, “Mammals have three Hedgehog homologues, of which Sonic hedgehog is the best studied.” Thank you Wikipedia for linking everything that has an entry. Of course, I stopped reading about silly hedgehog pathways. I want to read about Sonic the Hedgehog! Again, I understood very little of what I was reading, but was intrigued. more…
